Words of the Year for 2017
I select a word of the year or theme to act as a guide for the upcoming new year. It is one of my favorite ways to practice focus and bring a sense of grounding into my life. The word I select challenges me to be more authentic. I also use the theme to filter all opportunities that come my way. If the opportunity doesn't allow me to be my best self, it is not right for me. My theme for the year is Unapologetic.
About three years ago, I added a series of three words to act as anchors for my overall theme. When combined, the three words make complete sense to me. Picking the words, or rather allowing them to pick me is always thrilling. My anchor words are Magic, Yes and Stories.
- Magic is an extraordinary power or influence seemingly from a supernatural source. My super natural source is God. From Him I have all I need to be my best self and achieve what I want to see in my life. This is a belief I have in myself and knowing I have the power over the ordinary. It's an internal fire expressed outwardly.
- Yes. I am going to have a year of yes. I intend to say yes to all things that agree with my goals and desires. I will be open to deeper friendships, adventures, love, experiences and opportunities. The key here is the opportunities must be for me. They cannot be someone else's priorities. If it feels wrong, I am moving on.
- Stories. I always have a story and I am my stories. My stories shape me into who I am and who I am evolving into. I stopped telling my stories for a while and in doing so, I discovered telling them in written for is not my gift. My gift is my voice: spoken word, video and pictures is how I intend to share my stories.
Do you pick a word of the year? If so, please share what it is and why. Here's to a great new year.
